Azofarbstoffe, umfangreiche Gruppe künstlich dargestellter Farbstoffe, die die aus zwei Stickstoffatomen bestehende Azogruppe in Verbindung mit aromatischen (Benzol-, Naphthalin-)Kernen enthalten und durch Eintritt der Amido- und Hydroxylgruppe an Stelle des Wasserstoffs in den aromatischen Kernen entstehen, so daß man Amīdo- und Oxy-A. unterscheidet. Zu den A. gehört z.B. das Anilingelb, Biebricher Scharlach, die Ponceaus, Tropäoline etc.
